Drone Deliveries: Now Shipping by Drone
When Smokingpipes.com was founded, 15 years ago, it was hard to imagine people purchasing pipes online. It seems Sykes was the only one at the time who could realize the juxtaposition of the technical, digital world with the highly personal and detailed process of buying a pipe, but it has only gotten easier. With advancements in photography our customers see their future briars with total clarity. With quicker connectivity, emailed newsletters, and the social media boom came an expansion of the pipe community in ways few people could predict.
When Sykes said he wanted to start delivering pipes by drone, we were pretty skeptical, but just as buying pipes online once seemed outlandish, the underlying truth was soon realized. He was totally right. Delivery by an unmanned aerial vehicle allows us to cut out the shipping company middle-man, taking packages directly from our hands to yours. Although there is still a cost associated with this development, it decreases ship-times substantially, allowing us to give you even better service than before. If you live in the contiguous U.S. and you'd like to be one of the first to have your precious packages delivered by drone, look for the "Drone" option at checkout. In the meantime, enjoy this video of our very first delivery by drone.

Amazing! Where is your DromeDome for the Left Coast? I place my order first thing in the morning and not an hour ago, a high-pitched wining sent the dogs and cats a-howling; the neighbourhood kids mobilized to bring the UFO down with their lasers, tasers, low-tech slingshots, BB guns, and PaintBall rifles and iPhone interceptor hacks. But to no avail. The flat black pilotless delivery brought my order to earth within veritable minutes of placing it! It's a good thing you have a patent on the GPS iPhone app (Android promises the beta by the end of the day) that insures address delivery integrity, this way UPS FedEx, DHL can lease it from you. Kudos. I thank SmokingPipes.com for going the extra mile and shaving a millimeter off the heel of the poker I ordered so it could make the weight restrictions of the "DroneDrop". Where else do you see service like this? BTW, could you please add McClelland's Bulk Avenue Blend BB to your catalogue? No foolin'. :) - Warmest regards, David
David, glad to learn that our drone delivered your package successfully. As far as McClelland goes, we do carry that blend. Try this: http://www.smokingpipes.com/tobacco/by-maker/mcclelland/bulk/moreinfo.cfm?product_id=15411
April Fools!
Successfully is an understatement! And thanks for the link. KUTGS!
Best regards,
David
The cotton gloves were the subtle topping to a wonderful creation....
You got me, hahaha!
Friends,
Here it was another April first, the other day, and the drone was back! Unfortunately a neighborhood kid was playing with his flying Buzz Lightyear drone and and downed my tobacco delivery with its onboard laser! That's some radical equipment for a toy, so I looked into it. Turns out his dad is an optical engineer and did some DIY modifications. When I told him his mods messed with a drone-delivered order of mine, he was very sorry — until I mentioned that it was pipe tobacco that I'd ordered, since neither he or his wife smokes anything but canabis. I championed pipes and pipe smoking till gave up and apologized profusely. In the spirit of good will, he got your drone up and airworthy again. The amazing thing is that, in the event, the tobacco load I'd ordered got toasted. Laser cavendish, imagine that! What else could I do but try it? I loaded it into wonderfully forgiving meerschaum billiard and... well, the boy's father reprogrammed your drone to "return to sender", so you should have the remainder to sample and see for yourselves in no time at all! I wonder how it stacks up against that deep fried lot you mention in the blog? Here's looking forward to seeing a comparison. All the best,
David
@Christian Better late than never ;)
@Davd Smith We were wondering what those scorch marks were, the 'toasted' cavendish was delicious though :)
