Must-Have Pipe-Smoking Accessories

Must-Have Pipe-Smoking Accessories at Smokingpipes.com

It can be difficult to find the proper accessories to maximize our smoking experiences because of the intimidating number of choices. To provide a better understanding of the function and need for the various options available, we here at Smokingpipes have compiled a list of must-have accessories for any pipe smoker. Whether you're a novice or a long-time enthusiast, this list provides an overview of the accessories that help us reap the best performance from our briars.

Tobacco Pouches

Claudio Albieri Italian Leather Roll Up Tobacco Pouch Olive/Chestnut

While many pipes can be easily stored in a pants or jacket pocket, pipe tobaccos pose a more practical problem — no one wants a pocketful of loose tobacco. Enter: tobacco pouches — simple, effective tools to keep favored blends secure and fresh on-the-go. Lined with odor-free surgical rubber, tobacco pouches ensure that our blends remain fresh while keeping potentially pungent aromas at a minimum. Pouches are offered in a variety of styles, colors, and sizes, ranging from roll-up sleeves to pouches that can stand for easy accessibility.

Peterson Avoca Roll Up Pouch

Albieri Tobacco Pouches, for example, are handcrafted by Claudio Albieri, an accomplished Italian leather worker who marries his love for all things pipes and tobacco with his commitment to luxury leather goods. Each Albieri pouch is fashioned from superior Italian leather and comes lined with stain-resistant, surgical rubber, ensuring the utmost quality and protection for your tobacco.

Peterson Avoca Tobacco Pouches are fashioned by the esteemed Irish marque, and offer a quality product at an accessible price. These pouches are handy, wallet-sized, and feature a magnetic button clasp and a small zippered accessory pocket.

Pipe Bags

Erik Stokkebye 4th Generation 4 Pipe Combo Pouch Hunter Brown

For those who never want to be too far from their favorite briars, pipe bags are a must-have accessory, especially for those who like plentiful options for smoking on-the-go. These bags offer a secure and safe way to store and transport a variety of favorite pipes, offering individual straps. pockets, or sleeves for each pipe. Additionally, pipe bags cater to a wide range of needs and preferences, whether it's necessary to haul a week's worth of briars or just a few, or require a travel case that can carry all your pipe-smoking needs.

Erik Stokkebye 4th Generation 4-Pipe Combo Pouch is a zippered, leather enclosure for our most cherished briars. These bags offer everything a pipe smoker could want in a travel-friendly package, including four loops to safely secure pipes, a tobacco pouch, a pipe tool slot, and plenty of space for various other accessories, like pipe cleaners, filters, flints, and lighters. Peterson Avoca 2- and 3-Pipe Bags offer a simple, modern solution for carrying a reasonable supply of pipe-smoking needs. They feature loops to make sure our pipes are securely stowed, tamper pockets, a snap-in tobacco pouch, and external pocket secured by two magnetic buttons.

Tampers

8deco Legend Tamper Aqua

We all know the importance of a tamper, a simple yet essential tool that pushes the burning layer of tobacco into contact with the unlit tobacco beneath it, prompting fewer relights, better draw, and prolonged smoking enjoyment. The choice of tamper is an important and individual-specific decision, with the myriad options available offering pipe smokers tampers that best represent their aesthetic tastes. That being said, it's never a bad idea to choose a tamper with a removable pick, which can be used to stir and scrape ashes out of a bowl.

8deco's "Classic" and "Legend" tampers are smart, affordable, and functional. Offered in a variety of tasteful colors and materials, these tampers are designed to keep tobacco burn centered, and they house a dottle pick within their fuselages.

Pipe Lighters

Kiribi Kabuto Tsuchime Silver

While pipes can be lit with a standard lighter or a pack of matches, these options are less comfortable to use than lighters designed for pipes and run the risk of charring a briar's rim, as well as lack the sophistication and elegance afforded by dedicated pipe lighters. Pipe lighters produce an angled flame, which comes into direct contact with the tobacco while holding the lighter naturally, and reduces the chance of rim char. Additionally, most pipe lighters are refillable and built to last, making them considerably more durable than most mass-market lighters.

Kiribi Kabuto lighters are state-of-the-art designs crafted from sturdy brass, steel, and nickel, providing a comfortable heft in hand. These lighters feature an angled flame and a hinge spring made of a special polymer that is far more resilient to fatigue than steel. Entirely hand assembled in Japan, Kiribi Kabuto lighters are offered in a variety of vibrant colors.

Tobacco Jars

Tobacco should be kept at an optimal humidity to prevent loss of flavor, loss of moisture, and a poor rate of burn. Tobacco jars are an effective and stylish way to keep our favorite blends fresh and preserved. Designed to be airtight and to maintain a durable seal, these jars are offered in a variety of colors and configurations, ranging from brightly colored ceramic to more reserved, leather-bound options.

Designed to be more portable and durable than traditional glass or ceramic tobacco jars, Peterson's Grafton and Avoca tobacco jars are made from hardened elastomer and housed inside of supple leather sleeves. These jars are secured with Peterson-branded zippers, safely protecting tobacco from sunlight and any accidental drops or spills.

Tobacco Jars: PocketJar

Designed and crafted by The Pipery, the PocketJar is a pipe tobacco tote that combines the reliable seal of a mason jar with a portable overall size. At less than three inches wide and less than an inch tall, the PocketJar is the perfect everyday pipe-smoking accessory, holding roughly three to four bowls of tobacco. It maintains freshness thanks to an airtight seal, and the injection-molded construction is food safe, odor proof, and shatter proof. Available in a range of colors, these PocketJars are specially branded for Smokingpipes, with our logo etched on the lid, and they're ideal for daily use or weekend outings when minimalism and convenience are prioritized.

Ashtrays

Ashtrays: Savinelli

As any pipe enthusiast knows, smoking is accompanied by the eventual need to dispose of the ashes, and unfortunately, a simple cigarette ashtray or coffee cup isn't going to cut it. A pipe smoker's ashtray must accommodate a greater volume of ash and offer ample room for spent pipe cleans as well as a knocker to dislodge tobacco, and in some cases, may provide a perch for one or multiple pipes. Luckily, Smokingpipes offers an assortment of ashtrays to suit any pipe smoker's needs.

As well as crafting quality Italian pipes, Savinelli offers a wide range of refined pipe-smoking accessories, including ashtrays and sidecar pipe rest combos. Specifically designed for pipe smoking, these ashtrays come in a variety of configurations, offering options with rests for one or three different pipes. The rests are attached to the side of the tray and a spacious ash well replete with a cork knocker to safely tap out ash without damaging your pipe. Fashioned from ceramic and offered in a variety of colors, these Savinelli project an air of sophistication whether placed on a coffee table, desktop, or in a patio area.

Pipe Stands

Pipe Stands

A pipe can't stay clenched in the teeth forever; eventually, it will need to be set down. This necessity poses a challenge, especially if spills are to be prevented and the briar's finish and grain are to maintain pristine condition. Whether designed to accommodate a single pipe or an entire rack to showcase a full collection, pipe stands are a safe and fashionable means for keeping briars secure.

Crafted right here in South Carolina, USA, Dove Woodworks pipe stands are fashioned by Dave Workman from quality hardwoods. Its components are carved with CNC machines and assembled by hand, and these stands offer artisanal aesthetics and reliable practicality for any pipe collection.

With a simple, smooth, discrete, and modern design, Savinelli ceramic pipe rests are designed to gently cradle your briar. Available in several colors, they make a fine addition to any desktop, and are also quite suitable for highlighting a favorite pipe.

Cleaning Supplies

Neerup Complete Care Cleaning Kit

Like most things in life, pipes require a level of maintenance and care to perform at their best, so it's important to make sure our briars are regularly cleaned. Smokingpipes offers a wide variety of products to help our briars stay in optimal condition, ranging from pipe cleaners, mouthpiece polishes, and cleaning cloths to pipe tools, bowl reamers, and brushes.

Peterson Tapered Pipe Cleaners (50 Pack)

Neerup offers two cleaning kits for different pipe smoking needs: The Complete Care Kit and the Leather Cleaning Kit. Both kits provide bristled brushes of different sizes (for stems and draft-holes, for mortises, and for chambers) and a handy polishing cloth. They differ in that the Complete Care Kit comes with a soft mat upon which to rest pipes during cleaning, while the Leather Cleaning Kit provides a stainless steel shank reamer and a stainless steel bowl reamer.

Savinelli's "Magic Cloth" consists of two pieces of Italian cotton stitched back-to-back, with the beige half impregnated with Carnauba wax and a protective silicone. By simply polishing the pipe with the beige side, then wiping it down with the opposite, blue half, the Savinelli Magic Cloth is designed to help maintain a briar's luster and finish for a long time to come.

For over 150 years, Peterson of Dublin has been supplying the pipe-smoking public with pipes and tobacco, though the historic marque also features a line of high-quality smoking accessories to make smoking a pipe as enjoyable as possible. To that end, Peterson offers an array of pipe cleaners for any occasion, from rough, bristled cleaners, to tapered cleaners designed for tighter areas, or long Churchwarden cleaners for lengthier briars.

Adjusting down to as narrow as ¾ of an inch, the Brigham pipe reamer is a simple tool for managing cake build-up. Because of the "blades" on this reamer pivot, on wider-bowled briars it will remove excess cake in such a way as to leave the remaining chamber conical, as some smokers prefer for creating a concentrated flavor toward the end of a smoke.

Pipes can be almost magical in the way they promote relaxation and enjoyment, but they can't do it alone — they need a support crew of accessories to maximize their potential. While there's enormous satisfaction in owning a beautiful pipe, the accessories that accompany it can be equally impressive in workmanship and practicality. The satisfaction of employing superior tools for our daily activities is ingrained in our human nature, and finding just the right tool for the right application can be as gratifying as finding the right pipe or tobacco.

Newbies,Don’t be duped. You don’t need most of this. Remember this is a business and they sell all of this.A Bic or similar works fine. A pouch is nice and a tamper is too. A golf tee or nail will suffice and a bowl reamer is important. I use a old coffee mug for a ashtray to knock my ashes in.Inflation is bad so mind your cash. I’ve been piping since I was 15 and I’m 60 now. Remember this is a business and that’s what they do! Sell things.

Got’em all. Glad I do too. Sure you can buy the cheap stuff from the liquor stores but it’s funner to have the cooler looking stuff. You can buy a cheap pipe and a cheap lighter but why not spend a few bucks extra for the nicer looking things.

This is a ridiculous debate. I smoke and care for my pipes according to my own standards. The rest of you are free to establish and maintain your own standards. The pipes and accessories that I prefer need not appeal to you, but you must accept the results of the choices that you make, just as I must. Leave it alone.

Thanks for the review of accessories. I still find matches to burn the tobacco better than the lighter. I get a hint of the butane when I light with a lighter. Common wood matches are excellent. I also tamper with my finger. Those tampers look cool, but I guess I wouldn't want to carry it every time I smoke. The pipe tool is important for going through the stem and chamber when the pipe is cold, a reamer to remove excess cake in the bowl, and I think one needs the pipe sweetner alcohol solution dipped by a pipe cleaner for a refresher to the pipe -which should have been mentioned actually. Running your pipe with a good pipe cleaner is a must after ever smoke. Thanks

Hi guys, I'm completely new in smoking world! I'm 55 and just started a couple of months ago. I had never somked anything in my life before. I really don't know how and why it came to my mind to start smoking a pipe. I just felt at this age I need a special unique hobby. Something not too popular, something a bit more fancy, relaxing, classy and chic. As a furniture designer, I felt I like the design of pipes and smell of tobacco pipes which I smelled just a couple of times in a friend's house over 30 years ago !Voila, I just googled smoke shops in my area (Vancouver, BC) and went to one of them and got my first beautiful pipe with a set of essentials plus a few pouches of tobaccos of course. For me, a complex of beautiful pipes, aromatic tobaccos and nice accessories is the matter and not just the smoking itself. Thanks for reading my story and thank you Smokingpipes for your good customer service.

There's PAD(Pipe acquisition disorder) and there's TAD(Tobacco acquisition disorder). I wonder if there's an AAD(Accessories acquisition disorder)as well? 😆Anyway,I seem to have all three, though I am not a rich man, by any means. A good piece of writing.

Much like pipes, you can spend as much or as little as you may please on smoking accessories. My ashtray is a terracotta garden saucer with a champagne cork epoxied in the centre as a knocker - it works perfectly. My favourite tamper is one I carved from a tree branch complete with a concave tamper end, and sharpened end for removing dottle, I also have a store bought tamper but like it less. My reamers are store bought. My pipe collection is now 22 in number all estates. Mostly, refurbished by me. My end thought is set your priorities. And, of course, some items cannot be made by you for various reasons. Chose what you are comfortable to spend, and spend no more than that. This is a pleasure and a hobby.
