ipes, like with most things, come in all shapes and sizes, ranging from the giant, palm-filling briars of the Italian neoclassical tradition to the compact and muscular pipes of North America. The wide variety of pipes reflect the diverse taste of pipe smokers, as well as what they want from their smoking instruments. For some, giant chambers and thick, insulating walls are preferred, especially for marathon smokers, while others prefer the light weight and easy convenience of smaller, fairer pipes.

Typically, when people think of lightweight or portable pipes, they think of Nosewarmers, and while these pipes are certainly convenient, there are a number of different options and configurations, some of which retain the builds of traditional pipes while cutting down on weighty briar. Vauen Tiny

As the name suggests, Vauen's Tiny series offers lightweight Nosewarmers that prioritize minimalism and practicality above all else. The Tiny line features a single Volcano shape rendered in a variety of unique finishes and colors. Savinelli Mini

Like Savinelli's Petite line, their Mini series offers some of their most iconic shapes in demure Nosewarmer size. However, while the Petite line slims down the designs, the Mini line retains the same relative proportions between bowl and shank, with only the overall length shortened. In addition to being some of the Italian marque's smallest offerings, Mini pipes are vibrantly presented and fitted to colorful acrylic stems.

Peterson Short Army

Peterson's Short Army series, like the Irish marque's Irish Made Army and Army Filter series, centers around the eponymous mount that defines the shank-and-stem arrangement. Comprising the shapes found in the aptly titled Short series, the Short Army line offers compact pipes that maintain Nosewarmer proportions throughout. Each pipe is fitted with a domed army mount of nickel and a P-lip stem. The series boasts three distinctive finishes, including a chestnut-stained smooth finish, an inky sandblast, and a dark, craggy rustication.

Peterson Junior

With their Junior series, the historic Peterson factory forgoes their usual robust shaping aesthetic to offer something far more svelte and pocket-friendly. The Junior series pays homage to vintage pipes from the late 19th and early 20th centuries, with each of these designs rendered in trim Nosewarmer dimensions. In addition to being practical, these pipes are also quite handsome, dressed as they are in a craggy rustication and a bright nickel accent.

Eltang Basic

While Tom Eltang is known for his minimalist style, his Basic series pushes that aesthetic even further by reducing his signature Poker design to its bare components. These Pokers feature cylindrical briar bowls that are affixed to lightweight carbon fiber shanks and removable acrylic stems. As such, they're designed to be workhorse smokers, but even given their focus on functionality, these Sitters are presented in a wide variety of finishes and mediums. Additionally, they offer Eltang's high-quality craftsmanship at a more affordable price point.

Nording Compass

Though predominantly know for his distinctive Danish Fancy Freehand shaping style, which he helped pioneer, Erik Nørding also produces the Compass series — a line of streamlined, minimalist Pokers. Designed to be take-anywhere workhorses for everyday use, these sure-sitting Pokers feature briar bowls paired to durable metal shanks. They're offered in a variety of finishes, with some presented in metal fuselages for an industrial aesthetic.

Chacom Reybert

Chacom's Reybert series offers abbreviated Nosewarmers that are perfect for short, on-the-go smoking sessions. Lightweight, reserved, and pocket-friendly, Reybert pipes are ideal for those who prefer more reserved Anglo-French standards. Not just practical, these pipes are also stylish, rendered as they are in a variety of attractive colors.

Ropp Etudiant

Fashioned from old-stock stummels sourced from the Chapuis-Comoy factory, Ropp's Etudiant line offers practical pipes that are lightweight, attractive, and budget-friendly. Rossi Piccolo

While Rossi is known for substantive, palm-filling briars, the Italian marque also offers more abbreviated and slender compositions with their Piccolo line, catering to those with a penchant for more reserved and lightweight composition.
