Over the past couple of days many of you have reached out to us by phone or e-mail to ask how we're doing in the midst of the tremendous rainfall we've seen here in South Carolina as a result of hurricane Joaquin. The short answer is that we're doing just fine: the office and our staff, along with our pipes and tobacco are all safe and secure. The local animals have started forming into pairs, but so far as I know Sykes hasn't yet received a divine mandate to build an ark. The most challenging issue that we're facing is the flooding of local roadways, which we're hearing could possibly escalate over the next 24 to 48 hours as flood water from the South Carolina midlands makes its way here to the Low Country. As a result, many members of our staff are having a difficult time getting to work, and we're urging everyone to use their best judgment about making that attempt. So while our office remains open, and we'll continue responding to calls and emails, we aren't operating at our usual levels of efficiency. Likewise, it is possible that some of you will experience shipping delays of one to two days, as UPS and the Post are contending with weather challenges in our area and across the state. We appreciate your concern and your patience, and expect that soon we'll emerge to repopulate the earth with pipe smokers.
