Dunhill Classics: Baby's Bottom & Three Year Matured

There are some tobaccos which really can't be described using any other word than classic. These timeless mixtures have been passed down from generation to generation, leaving behind a legacy — a wide-spread recognition among pipe smokers new and veteran alike. Orlik Golden Sliced and Capstan are both prime examples of such legendary blends. They remain in production because their popularity demands it, and because their followers simply won't accept anything less.

Some classic blends, however, ceased in their production and passed into distant memory over time — phantoms of years long gone, spectres of a different age. Two legendary Dunhill blends are the first to come to mind: Three Year Matured and Baby's Bottom.

Three Year Matured

Once upon a time, this blend was a mainstay in the Dunhill tobacco lineup: a rich blend of red Virginias and Orientals, elegantly topped with subtle notes of citrus and dried fruits.

Baby's Bottom

Years ago, if you scanned the shelves of any major tobacconist, you'd find this timeless blend. Medium in body and strength, it's an elegant mixture of red and bright virginias, blended together with a generous helping of Latakia for a silky smooth, easy smoke.

Alas, these phantoms of tobacco continue to ellude us here in the U.S. The few lone survivors hide away in their masters' cellars, awaiting the day they'll be brought to new light and ignited once more.

But wouldn't it be nice, oh wouldn't it be nice, if we could change all that.

To be continued...

I remember smoking Baby's Bottom back in the day and have been thinking recently how it would be nice to try again. Do great minds think alike?

Smoked Three Year Matured a fair amount even after I had to by it from collectors. Can't find it at all now. Always thought it had a raspberry and tea note. I wish I had been more foresighted.
