Tasting Notes: Astley's 109 Medium Va Flake

In this latest Tasting Notes video, I return to one of my favorite all-day smokes from a few years ago: Astley's 109 Medium Virginia Flake. If you're a Virginia smoker, or looking to get into pure Virginias, this is both a great introduction and a wonderful addition to your normal rotation.

The tin note is extremely pleasant, almost like walking into a bakery. There are hints of cocoa powder, chocolate, baked goods, and almond all in the mix. When smoked, the brighter aspects of the tobacco start to shine, offering a nice amount of citrus, but balanced by a rich nuttiness and that same baked goods flavor and aroma you find in the tin.

All in all, it's just a great choice for the all-day Virginia smoker. It behaves well all the way to the bottom of the bowl, has a decent amount of strength (between mild and medium), and delivers a really satisfying flavor profile. If you've yet to try Astley's 109, I strongly suggest picking up a tin and giving it a smoke. If you do, feel free to reach out and let us know what you think in the comments field below!
