Toscano Toscanello: Tiny Cigars That Pack Big Flavors

Produced and Edited by Nicole Weed

Today we are talking about Toscano cigars, specifically the tiny Toscanellos, including the new Toscanello Limoncello.

Note: The following transcription has been edited for clarity and brevity.

Toscanello Limoncello

[Tyler Caldwell]: I'm joined by Cassie Davison, Director of Operations, today to smoke and chat about Toscano's Toscanellos.

[Cassie Davison]: I'm smoking the Limoncello today. I would typically smoke either the Hazelnut or Chocolate Toscanellos. I consider those almost like a dessert cigar. They're a little more rich and indulgent, and the Limoncello I'm finding to be a lot more light, refreshing, and summery, so it's a great time for this release.

[TC]: Absolutely. I have smoked a few Limoncellos recently. The best way I can describe them is that they are not what I expected. What I like about the Toscanellos is, with the flavored versions, they have more of a natural flavor. You don't get that artificial or infusion kind of thing. For example, I'm smoking the Hazelnut and it tastes like hazelnut.

With the Limoncello, you get that very nice sweet-and-sour profile of the Dark-Fired tobacco that they use for it, but you also get that zesty, citrusy sweetness in the background.

[CD]: Yeah, I think they play off of each other really nicely. I also found, right at the beginning of the smoke, I was getting a lot more of the lemon citrus pop. As you keep smoking, it really rounds out. You taste a little bit of a vanilla flavor that smooths it out. Then you've got the slight smokiness coming from the Kentucky tobacco in there.

Toscano Holders

I typically smoke with a holder. A lot of that honestly started because I'd see people with cigarette holders and it just kind of had a classy vibe that I liked, but especially now that there are a lot of Toscano holders being made with the pipe-style bit, it's also really comfortable to clench.

I'm typically smoking while I'm doing other things, so a holder helps me maintain my light on the Toscanello. I find it to be super enjoyable and mellow.

[TC]: You have a beautiful one there. I have a Toscano holder like that and I've tried really hard to get into it, but coming from smoking cigars regularly for so many years, I just can't do it. My mind just tells me it's difficult.

[CD]: Yeah, I think some of it too is that I started out smoking and trying pipes before I really delved into cigars a lot, and I found flavored cigars, but it felt like sometimes they kind of fell flat. It was one note, with one specific flavor. With the Toscanellos, like you said earlier, it's really well-balanced. There, you get the sweetness and the flavor, but you also still get some of the smokiness and there's a balance there. And again, it just looks classy in one of these holders.

Toscano Highlights

[TC]: So I will say one of my favorite things about Toscano is that they come naturally in a longer format, which are made to be smoked in the longer format, or you can also clip it in half to have one for now, one for later. You can also share with friends and loved ones. It's a great way to bond with people.

What I also really enjoy about them is it's something you don't have to really properly humidify. You don't have to worry about humidor space or anything like that. It's perfect for on-the-go, especially with the Toscanellos. If you're into fishing, being outdoors, hiking, or if you want a quick smoke, it's perfect at any event, any time of the year.

[CD]: Yeah, I take these to pipe shows with me a lot. A lot of times we aren't staying in one spot for a long time, so I want a faster smoke. I also want something I can easily throw in my bag. I just need these, my holder if I want to use it, and a lighter, and I can also always find someone that's interested in what I'm smoking, typically based on the smell, and then they want one too, and I can pass them around the table and everybody can try them.

[TC]: You could even put Toscano as a lifestyle brand. Toscanos are made of Italian tobaccos in the fire-cured format. In the European region, that's more common than what you find in the typical cigars on the U.S. domestic side. There's just that ambiance about it. There's that luxury feel that goes with it. I think it's suitable for everyone.

[CD]: Yeah, I agree.

Let us know in the comments which one of these Toscanellos is your favorite.
