What's in your humidor?: Jeremy Reeves, Cornell & Diehl Head Tobacco Blender

What's in your Humidor? | Daily Reader

As Black Friday looms on the horizon and we're putting together a list of our must-buys, there can be a need for inspiration. I come before you with that inspiration for your next smoke from some of the brightest minds in the tobacco world. Welcome to What's in your Humidor?, the series where I ask interesting people what they keep stocked in their humidor. This week, it's Cornell & Diehl's head blender, Jeremy Reeves. You know Jeremy as the mastermind behind some of your favorite blends and the host of tobacco selections. What's in your humidor, Jeremy?

What cigar are you currently smoking, and why do you love it?

Illusione: Original Documents 33 Ninfa! The Illusione 33 is such an underrated smoke. I love the Panatella size, especially for the way the flavors build in this thinner format. Crisp, bready, and graham cracker notes with elements of cream, cinnamon, and a touch of savory herb. Complex but not complicated, and all in a lovely and elegant vitola. It's mild-to-medium for the perfect all-day smoke.

What are your current five favorite smokes in your humidor?

  1. Illusione: Original Documents 33 Ninfa
  2. Dunbarton Tobacco & Trust: Mi Querida Ancho Corto
  3. Caldwell Cigar Company: Crafted and Curated Athenee
  4. Dunbarton Tobacco & Trust: Sobremesa Cervantes Fino
  5. Debonaire: Daybreak Corona

Tell us about a secondary choice.

Dunbarton Tobacco & Trust: Mi Querida Ancho Corto. The Mi Querrida Ancho Corto is big, bold, and full-flavored, but not at all fiery or peppery. Dense and dark, with earth, roasted almond, bold notes of cocoa, smoke, and leather. It's a delight to smoke after a rich dinner. Pairs beautifully with dark rum.

What are you currently eyeing for your next smoke?

Well, the Sobremesa is delicious, and its medium flavor profile will transition well into the Mi Querrida.

What do you enjoy with your smoke? (Drink, food, hobby, etc.)

My go-to pairing would be a rum or bourbon, but you can get a nice flavor combination with gin, tequila (or mezcal), sherry, port... lots of options depending on what I am smoking. For foods, I tend to enjoy small plates — snacks like roasted almonds, cheeses, and grapes — while enjoying a cigar. And I enjoy having a cigar while doing some chores, but that always sounds like a better idea than I find it to be in practice.

A man with a simple yet elegant taste. What do you think of Jeremy's picks? Are you going to pick up any of his favorites? Let us know in the comments below, and stay tuned for next time. Happy smokes!
