About This Pipe

In early 2009 I had the privilege of describing a Heding Diamond grade Elephant's Foot of such daunting beauty that, then and there, I expressed my personal opinion that Peter had arrived as a master carver. Here we are, some six-odd years later, and to quote Yogi Berra (after he saw back-to-back homeruns from Mantle and Maris) "It's dejà vu all over again"

Yes, this beautiful tower of power sits. At three and a third inches tall, it not only sits, but does so with a seemingly impossible stability. From the very start, Dr. Heding displayed a natural affinity for this shape which seemed to approach the supernatural. Whether the overarching feel of a given Elephant's Foot leaned towards the liquid & ethereal, the floral, or even the architectural, he nailed the shape, and did so with virtually no repetition of execution. Yet again, this pachyderm's paw is unlike anything variation I have seen from Peter and (yet again) this Diamond grade could pleasantly stun at 20 paces. Could one ask for a finer crossgrain on the panels? How could one improve on those massive fields of birdseye on the front and back? Could there be a more inspired complement to the remainder of the form than that bamboo-inspired horn? Why am I asking question after rhetorical question? Because, at just this moment, my brain is pleasantly frozen.
