About This Pipe

This isn't what I think of when I picture an S. Bang; it isn't chubby, or smoothly muscular at all. Of course, it is a pre-'84 piece, dating back to the time before Per and Ulf took things over, including all the decisions on shaping and design. That having been said, this doesn't exactly strike me as a pipe from the early 1980s (or earlier) at all: when I first spotted it in the tray, I expected it to be an artisanal briar made within the past decade, at most, and within the past few years more likely. It's kind of hard to believe this composition of controlled lines and carefully handled birdseye was made around the same time that the wild, just-follow-the-flame Danish Fancy craze was still at its height.
