About This Pipe Tobacco

Manufactured in a century-old brick building in picturesque Lauenburg, Germany, Dan pipe tobacco has gained quite a worldwide reputation among smokers, with a wide variety of blends and cuts on offer. Andreas Mund became the successor in charge of production when master blender Jürgen Westphal retired, and is assisted by Heiko Behrens as well as Michael Apitz of Dan Pipe.

Part of the American History series of pipe mixtures, Dan Tobacco's Patriot Flake is a tribute to the brave men and women who fought for freedom in the American Revolution. It's a pure Virginia blend featuring U.S. and Indian varietals, all fermented, pressed and aged, and then sliced into flakes — the perfect homage to America's tobacco tradition.

A new top 3 Virginia blend!

Been wanting to try this blend, as well as the others in this line (Liberty, Ironsides, etc), but whenever I would finally decide to get a few tins it would be out of stock. Finally got my hands on 2 tins and am so glad I did. This is an exceptional Virginia blend. Straight Virginias are my go to blends, I love a really good Virginia and this fits the mold. Tin note is a rich, sweet hay scent. The flakes are perfectly cut and have the perfect moisture content. No drying needed. The smoke is a rich, sweet hay, with almost a malt note to it. You get a slight bready note as well and although its almost not noticeable, there is a faint citrus note on the back end. Pointer by Nording and Capstan Blue have been my favorite Virginias for some time now, but this is right close to knocking them off the top! If not , its definitely a top 3 smoke. Least amount of bite potential from any Virginia I’ve tried. Could smoke all day, fermentation here makes the smoke as delicate as can be. Love it, perfect velvety light smoke with all the right flavor. I could burn out a pipe smoking this, yet it smokes cool. Mind blown…

When I first tried this blend I was blow away by the sweetness. I knew with some age this could be truly special. Warning! Lay the flakes out to dry a bit before long term storage or risk mildew. This tobacco is extremely damp fresh out of the tin. I immediately placed mine in a small Mason jar and forgot about it for 14 months. When I came back it was fuzzy and gray. It was ruined.
