About This Pipe
Although he learned some of the basics in the workshop of Poul Rasmussen (largely by seeing Poul's finished products, and working things out for himself), and later spent some time working in the W.O. Larsen factory, Jess Chonowitsch's most significant instruction came at the hands of the legendary Sixten Ivarsson. The lessons and encouragement received during the two years spent with Sixten, suffice to say, did Jess a world of good, as he eventually developed into one of the world's most renowned master artisans in his own right. Details and precision of drilling and engineering, expert handling of briar's natural grain, and the realization of beautiful design - these are things Jess Chonowitsch came to perfect to a degree that few other pipemakers throughout the world have ever achieved.
