About This Pipe
I have a high admiration for old Comoy's pipes; the lovat is one of my favorite classic shapes; and silver is my favorite precious metal to have on a pipe. How could I not like this? Close inspection has me thinking that the band is a balance between cosmetic, and applied to prevent the shank from cracking (the previous customer had a cracked shank repaired and apparently had other bands put on to prevent this from happening. The only drawback is that the edge of the band (facing the stem) is crimped over like pie crust and may look better if faced off on a lathe by a professional. When a silver band is often applied, the shank is sanded down a little to fit the band. Taking all of that into account, the straight grain is breathtaking.
