About This Pipe
Pre-transition Barlings are pretty rare. We only see four or five a year come through Smokingpipes.com. And I think we've only had two Pre-Trans Barling bulldogs ever, making this a particularly nice find. The grain is quite impressive, and it's larger than I would have expected given the 'EL' stamp; it's as large as 'ExEL' stamped pieces I've seen. While it's not a shape that we've seen much of from Barling, the shape is unmistakable for any other company's work. From the way the stem is saddled to the slightly jaunty cant to the bulldog bowl, this is a Barling. And it's a Barling from Barling's heyday.
