About This Pipe
We have offered roughly sixty Peter Heding pipes for sale, and this is only the sixth diamond we have seen. While by no means a perfect method for gathering statistics, it does give you an idea about the scarcity of the nomenclature. I just reviewed all of the photos from the previous Diamond grades in our archives. While, to a pipe, the compositions are all superb, in my opinion this Swordfish outshines them all.
This shape has it genesis within both the Bo Nordh "Ramses" and "Ballerina". The back spine has more presence than the Ramses, creating the sense of a dorsal fin. The body *is* the spitting image of the Nordh Ballerina. The overall composition seamlessly combines a lushness of proportion with a boldness of execution, and clean, knife like edges. The cross cut grain on the sides of the bowl and spine are tighter than a barrel sample of last year's Chateau Lafite, and the birdseye on the back is impossibly dense and well defined.
