In early 2005, Todd Johnson simplified his grading structure. The two basic grades are as follows:
In addition to the above two stamps, Todd also uses his Hoplyte stamp to designate those pipes that are particularly special in terms of shape or grain. This stamp is used on both Athenian> and Alexandrian grade pipes. The Hoplyte stamp is the outline of an Hoplyte helmet in profile.
Currently, the pipes are priced on a per-piece basis. Generally, Alexandrian (smooth) pipes are more expensive than Athenian (sandblasted) pipes. A Hoplyte graded pipe would be generally more expensive than a non-Hoplyte piece (i.e. an Alexandrian Hoplyte would be more than a regular Alexandrian).
