About This Pipe
Much like others in the Larsen school such as Teddy Knudsen and Former, Tonni plays relentlessly with the elephant's foot shape. This large bodied version of the shape features big side panels filled with great flame grain, which terminates into birdseye on the front panel. The stem is simple and elegant, supporting, but not distracting from, the bowl. The subtle upward point on the front of the bowl echoes Tonni's rhino shape without reinventing the overall idea here. This is a shape that is a little bit of a departure from Tonni's standard elephant foot shapes, but the combination of ideas is excellent, yielding an impressive composition.
