About This Pipe
Oh! How I love this pipe! Tsuge does terrific horns, and they maintain their excellence of execution across a wide variety of iterations. From the rim view of this pipe, we see what almost appears to be a brush stroke that trails off to the fore of the composition, even the cross grain on the rim seems to reinforce this impression. The ragged edge of the brush stroke moves down the front of the bowl, erupting into raw, vibrant plateau. In a head snapping move, this very "Nihon" approach to the execution of the rim and front is juxtaposed against an almost Danish roundness of the sides and back. The difference is subtle, the effect is stunning.
