About This Pipe
1915: Babe Ruth hits his first career home run; Pluto is photographed for the first time; and Anne Whitney (American sculptor) passed away (born in 1821 [when John Adams was still alive]).
1918: WWI ends; The Boston Red Sox defeat the Chicago Cubs in the World Series, and wouldn't win again for a looooong time; and this pipe was either made, or had been enjoyed for a few years.
A very unusual dental bit (the only we have ever seen) allows smoke to come from a center hole in the stem, and on both sides of the button. There is an interesting shank splice, which happened at the factory. Before the use of bamboo, it seems that Dunhill made a bone tenon to thread into the shank. We know this was factory-made because the stamping extends across the divide, without any loss of letter space. This is our oldest Dunhill piece, and a really unique one.
