About This Pipe

In some of the earliest days of the briar pipe, Albatro (albatross bone) was often used as a ferrule, or shank extension. From time to time, a carver will create an homage to those pipes, Giancarlo of Ser Jacopo comes readily to mind, and here we have one from Gigi Radice. Albatross are downright thin in the air, at present (19 of 21 known species are currently regarded as endangered), so Gigi and other make do with a remarkably similar looking substitute.
