About This Pipe
Max Rimensi very clearly designed this sculptural, asymmetric curiosity with one primary goal in mind: producing the best possible display of beautiful grain features. The rim, underside, and forward as well as rear faces of the bowl are covered over with a lively cross-grain, the broad, flat left flank is all birdseye from edge to edge, and on the curving right, a center of birdseye is surrounded by the radiating beginnings of the aforementioned cross grain. Max continues this theme even in the execution of the black palm mount, which is essentially a disc of cross-grain matched to the orientation of the briar's own pattern - while simultaneously providing an artful contrast.
