About This Pipe
Dunhill's tradition of very classic shapes sometimes takes a detour. A master craftsman is working on, say. a 5220 cherrywood, and a flaw is found. Chuck the whole piece? No way! Now there is an opportunity to explore, in a semi freehand manner, what shape the briar has to offer. The result is a Quaint. This quaint sports a shape that is well off the beaten path and the grain is acceptable, if not spectacular. Much as I will note when I see a pipe that that I believe is under graded in size, it's only fair to offer an opinion when I think Dunhill overreached on a stamp. In my opinion, this should have been stamped a Group 2. On the other hand, I will bet a dollar to a pretzel that a flake or coin tobacco will shine in this Shell Briar.
