About This Pipe
For this Gold grade elephant's foot, Peter Heding elected to use a dark bengal stain. When combined with the jet black of the stem and cream of the bamboo, the overall composition takes on an extra dash of subdued elegance. The cross cut grain is out-and-out spectacular, on either side of the bowl, with the birdseye of the front being exemplary (the back panel birdseye washes to lava a bit on the left). The juxtaposition of the shank with the bowl, along with the complementary arc of the bit line is delightfully advanced.
