About This Pipe
Correct, not "blowfish", but "fish". The foundation that underpins this adorable composition is pure S. Bang (really Per Hansen, if we want to split hairs). Still, this is Dr. Peter Heding's craft, and the compositional spirit of the Bang fish and the one in front of you are miles (fathoms?!) apart. There are forms that, for the first couple of seconds that your eyes alight upon them, seem to actually become nature. With the shape of the bowl and pleasing pudginess of the shank, you get the sense that you are looking at a goldfish, caught scanning the surface for a treat. Is positively palpable! The grain is not only top tier, Peter does a magnificent job of containing crosscut-into-birdseye spill over and the underside of the bowl and shank. (turns to Sykes) "Can I keep this one, Dad?
