About This Pipe
The Lion, a shape unique to carver Peter Heding, is something we've seen from the Dane a handful of times. However, this is the first instance we've seen the form in a compact, or 'chubby', almost nosewarmer like variation. I have to say, it translates handsomely, as it maintains the designs sinuous paths and transitions, particularly along the heel and underside of the composition, and especially throughout the bowl's structure. The thin boxwood ferrule makes for a perfect conversion of briar to stem, as it adds a dash of color to the piece and gently nudges the eye to Peter's carefully articulated, bulbous saddle bit. Although modest in size, it's a bold, masculine piece, and should make splendid addition to any fellow's profile.
