About This Pipe
God only knows how long it takes Michael Parks to produce sandblasts so deep and finely detailed. (Well, okay, presumably Michael knows too - we'll assume he's not making these things in a state of fugue, though it would be a cunning way to ensure all the more that his technique remained a secret.) Here he's used his most renowned finish to set up an interesting contrast, mercilessly sandblasting a design which, underneath it all, is utterly smooth, eloquent, and graceful in the flow and gesture of its profile. Tying it all together, however, we come to the cross-section, which is notably broad in bowl, shank, and chamber alike, perfectly fitting to the superbly rugged texture and extra-dark, earthy walnut finish.
