About This Pipe
Even though there are only a handful of people who describe pipes for a living on this planet, if we got together for a convention (ok, a really small convention, think "Back room, Denny's) I think there is one thing we could all quickly agree on; some carvers product is easy to describe, and some carvers give you fits, these carvers are your descriptive Achilles tendon. Nanna is mine. Please, don't get me wrong, I love Nanna's pipes. Indeed, if some wealthy (probably insane) patron wished to buy me some work of any carver in the world, Nanna would be in my top 3. The problem is conveying, in what matters to be a smidge over an instant, what I am seeing and feeling. Example: The Mona Lisa "Umm. woman, dark clothing, mischievous smile. and lots of security around her". Doesn't quite make you want to take a journey to the Louvre, does it?
This pipe's shape, like all pipe's from Nanna, is wonderfully executed, and is a logical extension of a simple, painfully beautiful interior line. The bowl is unbelievably hand friendly, and the ring grain is some of the nicest I have personally encountered. The entire composition is imbued with a quiet harmony, right down to the visual mating of the shank and bit. Does the above paragraph make you want to dive for your wallet? If you could see and hold this pipe in person, you just might, my friend.
