About This Pipe
Nanna does very few canadian/lumberman/liverpool/lovat shapes, it's not like we, as collectors, have hundreds of previous examples from the artist to serve as a base template of recognition. Having said that, could this lumberman have been made by anyone else? The oval shank is compositionally thick, and has a subtle flaring as it moves to the mount. On the other side of the same, allowing a slightly greater travel underside causes the brandy elements of the bowl to fairly "pop" to life. The grain on the entirety of the composition is stellar, but the field of birdseye on the bottom of the shank is as close to perfection as you are ever likely to encounter.
