About This Pipe
If I were to look for a particularly extreme example of what I've been describing as Peterson's shape aesthetic through many of these pipe descriptions, the XL339 is probably the best example I could pick. The bowl is completely cylindrical and the shank is very nearly as wide as the bowl. The shape, from the profile, almost completely flattens out at the base. The result is a very tubular look, especially when paired with the classic Peterson saddle stem. The resulting composition is really fascinating. This particular piece is special because we see so few of this remarkable shape from Peterson. I've only ever seen it in the Shamrock series (I think).
