About This Pipe
It seems we have here another example of Peterson's late experiments in pushing the boundaries of what constitutes a "rhodesian", and this is one of their more effusive efforts. The stem, shank, and underside of the bowl are classic Peterson shaping, and classic shaping for this pipe's defined type as well (the two, you surely understand, are often not mutually inclusive), but once one rises above the single bead, that's all over and done with. Here, instead, we have a decidedly Volcano-like form thrusting upward, complete with a cocked rim which one would half-swear were sneering at our pedestrian expectations.
