About This Pipe

One of the signatures of Randy Wiley's pipemaking his is creation of complex, sculptural shapes using a minimal number of lines. As an example of that, we have here freehand bent Dublin composed of interlocking planes and smoothly sweeping style - all of which is actually created by single line, flowing from the shank, winding up the bowl to create one edge of a deep channel, forming the outer edge of the flaring rim, then winding back down the bowl again to define the other edge of the same channel, before once more returning to dissipate into the shank. One line - that's it, but one line used with subtlety and grace to create one very dramatic shape.
