About This Pipe
I am an unabashed fan of the bulldog shape, and any variation of the shape that I run across immediately grabs my attention. FINALLY, I get to see an iteration of the shape from the legendary Tonni Nielsen. How rare is a Tonni Nielsen classic bulldog? I have handled about 150 of Tonni's pipes for this site, and seen roughly another one hundred in the collections of pipe men at shows. This is the first classic bulldog that I have encountered, and I have one more that is yet to be described. So, how did he do? Just take a peek. Exuding a wonderfully conservative Danish classicism, Tonni has created a bulldog that could be the center of most any collection. Tonni reverses the standard grain pattern by placing the birdseye below the shape's signature twin bead, and the straight grain above. A swirled ebony inlay and deliciously thin bit finish to perfection.
