Sitting just one step below the much vaunted Viking grade, this 10-grade horn is a wonderfully updated version of a Danish classic. This sort of paneled horn was the shape that many argue set the Danish shaping revolution into motion. Sixten created a horn shape that was entirely paneled, meaning that the entire shape had to be shaped on a sanding disk rather than a lathe, creating something very new in pipes. This piece from Tonni echoes that original idea, but updates it considerably, from the variation on the angles, especially at the top of the shank and back of the bowl, the way the bowl flares forwards, wider on the front than the back (or top, rather than bottom, if you prefer), and sporting a striking (and rather surprising) saddle stem, cut in cumberland, that simultaneously completes and updates the composition. The grain is quite impressive, with good straight and flame grain on the side panels and birdseye top and bottom.
