CAO Bella Vanilla: Cigarillo or Pipe Tobacco

Lately I've been on this vanilla kick. It's just one of those classic flavors you can't go wrong with. I fondly remember making homemade vanilla ice cream for science class in a plastic bag with rock salt, vanilla extract, ice cubes, sugar and milk. The end result was a really nice, pure vanilla taste. That's the exact taste I have been wanting! Seeing as cigarillos have been my thing these days, I set out to find that vanilla I craved.

Upon browsing the site, I came across CAO's Bella Vanilla cigarillos. To my surprise, CAO also offers the Bella Vanilla tobacco tinned. Two times the vanilla is better in my book! I purchased both and set out to satisfy my craving and to find out the difference between the two. It was a nice change; I very rarely get to compare one of each when blends come in both cigar and pipe tobacco.

The experiment started off with the cigarillos. After all, I'm a busy gal, and these allow me to multitask while enjoying my smoke. Opening the tin, a delightful whiff of vanilla hit me. It wasn't strong, mind you, but enough to tease my taste buds. These cigars are a bit bigger than my usual Villigers, and I didn't mind that one bit. The wrapper was a bit sweet and had a slight hint of vanilla. The cigar itself was mild, perfect for my pace. Unlike some, this cigar didn't seem to get any stronger towards the end. I really enjoyed the consistency. I paired it with a cup of creamy coffee and got a nice dose of vanilla. I definitely recommend them for the early morning to help jump start your day. There's just enough flavor that it doesn't become too much early in the AM.

Next, I grabbed my Ropp Billiard and proceeded to open up my fresh tin. The tobacco was a bit damp but smelled of sweet vanilla. I pulled out a bowl, let it sit out to dry a little bit, and packed it in. Although this tobacco is an aromatic, it didn't hit me as strongly as some I have smoked. It was just enough to leave a slight room note without being overpowering. Throughout the bowl, the vanilla was constant and only seemed to get better and slightly stronger than the start. I did taste more vanilla from the Bella Vanilla in a pipe. The only thing that would take it over the top would be to pair this tobacco with a Savinelli Vaniglia pipe (but that's a whole other experiment). It would be great for an after-dinner snack, a dessert you could say.

Now for the million dollar question: Did I satisfy my craving? Well heck yeah I did! I got what I was looking for and then some. But who knows? Maybe I will pair my Bella Vanilla with a nice bowl of French vanilla ice cream tonight.
