Introducing Lure Cigars
Tyler here with Smokingpipes, and if I can reel you in real quick — I think that's a good way to introduce this brand here — today I am here to chat with you about a new brand on-site, Lure Cigars.
Note: The following transcription has been edited for clarity and brevity.
Lure has been on my radar ever since I first heard about them, right around the time that they launched. I had the privilege of meeting Lou Cross, the owner of Lure, at the Premium Cigar Association show this year. He's one hell of a dude. Shout out to Lou: thank you for allowing us to have this cigar spread here. Let's get a little background history of these guys.
Lure Cigars Background
They've only been around since 2023, but what I like about them is the story behind the brand. Lure Cigars pays homage to Lou's father. Unfortunately, his father passed away in 2023. Lou and his father loved smoking cigars together and going fishing together. That is where the branding of Lure comes from.
Corojo Oscuro Line
Though Lure is a newer brand, I would have to say their newest offering, The Fat Tony, here in their Corojo Oscuro line, has been my favorite. I'm smoking it right now. I had the privilege of smoking one with Lou at PCA, and I have been super stoked on getting these here just so I can personally buy more of them.
To go along with Fat Tony, the Lil' Tony is more like your standard Robusto. We've also got the Big Lou, which is more of a standard Toro.
What's even more incredible about the flavor profile that fits with my personal preference is that all of these are Nicaraguan Puros. That means all-Nicaraguan tobacco, folks, and that really resonates with my palate. Personally, these are cigars that I believe will age really well, and I think they're only gonna get better with time. I'm going to continue to smoke these, but I'm also gonna see what this little pack right here is gonna taste like in about five years.
I would say the flavors that stand out to me are espresso with a milky creaminess to it. You get a citrus zestiness and a type of dried fruit, but you also get that little hint of black pepper on the retrohale.
As for body and strength, I would totally say medium-plus. Nothing that's gonna really knock you around. You could smoke this all day long, but it would be a perfect cigar first thing in the morning and a great cigar for that after-dinner special.
Habano Line
Next, let's get into their Habano line.
There are two size offerings in the Habano: Holy Colie, which is gonna be your Robusto, and Tally Allie, which is gonna be your Toro.
With the Habano line, you could probably figure it out, it features a Habano wrapper. Once again, these are gonna be all-Nicaraguan puros. Very excellent.
I find the flavor profile to be a little more bready, oaky wood, and a black coffee kind of profile to go with it. Again, medium plus when it comes to strength and body. It's a perfect, all-day smoke, no matter what time of day you wanna smoke it.
Fish Stix Five Pack
Last but definitely not least, Fish Stix is a very interesting five-pack. These are gonna be 4.25" x 46. Again, Nicaraguan Puro, using a little bit of Ligero.
In my opinion, I actually found these to be the strongest of the offerings that we have here, but it's nothing that's really gonna knock you around too much, so you don't have to worry about that.
What I do like about Fish Stix is that it comes in a five-pack. They are box-pressed and they look like fish sticks. Do you like fish sticks? If you get that joke, let me know in the comments.
But anyway, Fish Stix is a great little smoke, especially to smoke while walking to the lake to go to your favorite fishing hole. These are also very affordable. Before you ask, no, they do not taste like fish, so don't even bother me with that.
Easy Smokes, Perfectly Suited to the Fisherman
Not only are Lure cigars good smokes, but they come to you in a very simplistic, easy-going, fun vibe. They're great to smoke for fun occasions and definitely interesting because I don't know of any cigar brands that are fishing-related. So, if you are that smoking fisherman, definitely give them a try, or if you just like to enjoy a good cigar on your back porch with your favorite beverage, also give them a try. Check 'em out. Let us know what you think.
