Mystery Cigar Review: January 2022

Welcome back to another episode of the Mystery Cigar Review. For the first episode of 2022, we were extremely privileged to host a cigar industry giant as our guest Inquisitor: former bass player of the heavy metal band Hung Jury and founder of Tatuaje Cigars, Mr. Pete Johnson!

First released in 2003, Tatuaje is based in Miami and incorporates mainly Nicaraguan components in its various lines. Together with master ligadors, Pete works to revive old-world flavors, utilizing Nicaragua-grown, Cuban-seed varietals with vintage artwork inspired by bands and boxes popular decades ago, but he's also renowned for his fantastic limited-edition blends. Could Pete have sent us a retired cigar that he's been holding on to? Could his mystery cigar be a custom blend made specifically for this challenge? Tune in as Truett, Tyler, and I smoke through Pete's chosen cigar in an attempt to identify the wrapper, binder, and filler in a blind taste test.

What is The Mystery Cigar Review?

For those of you unfamiliar with this little game, each month one member of our team selects a cigar for us to review in a blind taste-test. Then we gather around the camera, scratch our heads, and smoke, all while attempting to guess the mysterious cigar's wrapper, filler, origins, and name. There's only one rule: There are no rules.

The wrapper was identified as corojo. Shane mistakenly said criollo on the reveal. Otherwise their guesses were pretty good.
