Mystery Tobacco Review: January 2022
Welcome back to the Mystery Tobacco Review! For this first episode of 2022, we were privileged to once again host Mr. Glen Whelan, Director of Sales for Peterson, as our special guest Inquisitor! For those of you who've followed this series in the past, you already know this isn't Glen's first rodeo — in fact, he stumped us pretty good last time with his grandfather's favorite smoke, St. Bruno. So when he came to visit us in South Carolina recently, bringing with him a special treat for us to review in a blind taste test, we were both excited and, to be honest, terrified.
Tune in as Truett, Shane, and I smoke through a bowl (or in my case, bowls) of Glen's chosen mixture, and attempt to guess its country of origin, blending house, and name. Did we guess it right? Or did we strike out 0-2 against Glen's discerning palate? Watch the full video to find out.
Did you enjoy this month's Mystery Tobacco Review? Were you able to guess the blend? Leave us a comment below with your thoughts.
What is The Mystery Tobacco Review?
For those of you unfamiliar with this little game, each month one member of our team selects a tobacco for us to review in a blind taste-test. Then we gather around the camera, scratch our heads, and smoke, all while attempting to guess the mysterious mixture's components, origins, and name. There's only one rule: There are no rules.

Before we say anything else, I think we should all give due tribute to Mr. Whelan for sharing a tin from 1976. Well done, and good on you, sir! That was a generous gift. Also, you _really_ stumped the boys. Hah! A tin from forty-six years ago is a challenge worthy of their talents.Andrew, Shane, Truitt: you did well. You worked through the cut. You danced around the variety, but you were right, ultimately, about the basic characteristics (given the age, after all). Also, thank you, Truitt, for calling our attention to Royal Yacht as an available substitute.Best,Matt
Hi, I cannot watch the video! it says that the video has benn removed by the uploader!
@Hasan Hamied, thanks for letting us know! We've fixed the video and it should be visible now. Thanks again!
Great contest. I really enjoyed the discussion. The oldest tobacco I’ve smoked is Black Mallory from 1989-91. Surprisingly smooth. Also a Balkan Sobranie, same age.
Nice one guys. Pass vs. Fail? I'll say pass. You all come pretty close on most that you don't end up nailing. Fun to listen too. I just stumbled on a can of Balkan Sobranie at a local shop. I can't wait for the occasion to open it.
