Complex carving like that of this Castello Collection makes for a difficult and involved process - which is to say one rife with opportunity to screw it all up with one second's worth of inattentiveness. At that point, I suppose, the prudent course would be to sand it all down and call it a bent egg - it's understandable that briars like these are hard to come by. Even harder to come by would be a pristine, unsmoked example at an estated discount.
