About This Pipe
As much as I have loved the avant-garde shaping direction that Paolo has taken the mainstream classics in recent years, there is almost something comforting in seeing the carver do "straight classic" shapes again. The bowl is quite Italian traditional, almost "Pesaro" in execution, and is blessed with some very fine grain. Rather than follow his normally seen aesthetic of pairing the massive to the compositionally thin, Paolo keeps the ratios pretty close to "according to Hoyle", leaning the width of the shank just slightly into the slender camp.
