About This Pipe
There's been a renewed interest in the "Calabash effect" within the recent past, thanks in large part to some contemporary experiments amongst artisan pipemakers with adding cooling chambers to the shanks or mounts of their briars. While we wish them all the best with that, there's still something to be said for the traditional manner of going about it - a big, deep, and proper Sherlock-Holmes-style number, with a floating chamber suspended by a mushroom-cap rim. Lucky for us, Luigi Radice and his sons agree, and have produced a limited-edition run of the classic, full-bend gourd-style Calabash, albeit of course in briar. Limited to twenty-five pipes per finish type, the design they've come up with is a pleasure in hand and magnificent in profile.
This particular specimen is 15/25 for the Silk Cut finish, sporting a nice, light sandblast with a soft texture, stained in deeply warm amber/golden hues.
