About This Pipe Tobacco

This blend from Mac Baren includes Virginias, Burleys, Original Cavendish, dark-fired Kentucky, Orientals and, of course, a fair amount of Acadian Perique. HH Acadian Perique has no top flavor at all which means that you will only enjoy the tobacco taste. It is a rich, flavorful and very satisfying smoke.

Rich, complex blend, very good tobaccos. Tanginess and spice predominate, with some nutty burley in the background.

Mac Baren's products are not my preference, but because I am a fan of tobacco blends from the Virginia family, I decided to try this tobacco. Indeed, as declared by the manufacturer, the tobacco has no foreign tastes, burns evenly in the tube and is smoked to the bottom dry and completely. I’m a fan of Peterson Irish Cask and I heard this was similar. Tin note is sour orientals and earthy dark fired Kentucky. It smokes fine, and the pepperiness of the Perique is evident and enjoyable. It’s not a go-to blend for me, but it’s fine.

If you like Royal Yacht, you will like this and vice-versa. I do not like either. To me both blends taste like concentrated cigarette smoke with a topping of rotting green tomato. ----- I hate the stuff, but gave it a 3 as I wanted my review to be neutral. Another Tasty HH Blend!

When I first started smoking a pipe about a year and a half ago, I bought so many blends I nearly forgot about this one. I popped the lid on a jar of this I'd cellared for about a year and I was delightfully surprised by how good it was. Unlike it's name, it's not a Perique powerhouse, but rather a very nice, typical VA-Per in flavor and behavior. It's got that bready and dark fruit tin note than any good VA-Per usually has, and the taste is equally pleasant. I'd recommend it to anyone who's enjoyed any of the HH blends, and to VA-Per fans who want to explore new territory. Also worth noting is the lack of the usual "Mac Bite" that Mac Baren is infamous for. Finally, its strength, which is mild to medium, both in flavor and nicotine content.
