Virginias offer a sweet and sour background to the sweet smoke of the cavendish and the nutty, earthy strength of the burley and the rum. Beautiful presentation. Moist slices hold together for folding and packing, but lights and burns well. More flavor than most Navy Flakes without aging. Doesn’t burn overly hot for a blend with Virginias, but will gurgle if you smoke it too quickly. Nic hit is medium. Dinged half a star for the tin note, which smells of cheap rum, although the tobacco doesn’t taste like the rum was cheap at all. Truly a complex and layered offering. EDIT: Bumped up to a 5. A real full flavored tobacco, mild and easy smoking. I enjoyed the tobacco from the first bowl while some in my rotation I had to ease into, maybe let it age a bit, Navy Flake and I are getting along fine. Burley heaven.

All my Baren/HH flakes are drying out, due to nonsense additives. I just opened a jar with more than three years of age, and it's so dry the flakes are impossible to fold. They just crumble. I'm noticing this with all my Baren/HH: Navy Flake, Burley Flake, Dark Twist, Pure VA, Vanilla, Golden Extra (broken flake), etc., etc. They're all drying out despite airtight storage and the insides of the jars are clouding. When those two things happen together — cloudy jars and dried out flakes — you know they've used Glycols and other additives as humectants for false moisture and heavier weight. The flavors become increasingly bitter the older these additives get, because they go rancid. I'm not surprised, but I am incredibly disappointed. My stocks from 2020 and older are okay, but ones from 2021 and later all look like this. This is bad news. What a waste. Unless I learn that the issue has been resolved, I will not buy Mac Baren/HH again....Read More

This stuff is addictive. You have to take it "low and slow" and just let the smoke gently caress your tongue, but the flavors burst all over your mouth like juicy fruit. I salivate the entire time I'm smoking it. My favorite by far.
