About This Pipe

One of the biggest names in Italian pipe making today, Castello's roots can be traced back to 1947, when Carlo Scotti founded the workshop and began producing handmade briar pipes. At the time, handmade briars were uncommon in Italy, but that would soon change as Castello discovered customers' desire for high-quality, handcrafted pipes. In a time of quantity over quality in Italy's pipe making history, Castello flipped the script by prioritizing craftsmanship, high-quality materials, and cutting-edge engineering. Today, the brand remains committed to these same principles, as evidenced by this skillfully rendered Pot.

Measuring a little over 4.5 inches in total length, this Pot verges closely on Nosewarmer territory. What it lacks in length, so to speak, it makes up for in volume, as it showcases the bold, dramatized proportions typical of Italian pipe making. The bowl boasts dense, insulating walls, and it crouches at the fore of a thick, ovoid shank. Said shank is joined by a tapered acrylic stem, which starts out quite robust at the junction, but quickly narrows toward the button with dramatic effect. Plateau crowns the thick-walled bowl, adding a pop of textural contrast against the stummel's otherwise smooth finish, which showcases a wealth of attractive grain.
