About This Pipe

While Old German Clay specializes in traditional clay pipes made by Markus Fohr, the artisan introduced a line of briars in 2023. The Retro line was born from Fohr's longtime friendship with the family of Erich Heikaus, operator of HEIBE pipes. HEIBE pipes were popular and well-regarded for their quality and accessible prices. After Heikaus' death, the pipe factory was dissolved and the family began selling old stock pipes online. Later, Fohr purchased the rest of the factory's stock of turned stummels and briar ebauchons. Widely beloved for his clay pipes, Fohr has now added briar to his portfolio. The Retro Briar line is composed of classic shapes in a variety of sizes, with each piece finished in either a sandblast or a glossy smooth finish. The timeless style and rich aesthetics of the Retro Briar line are admirably displayed in this Dublin.

Note: While all of our other pipes are photographed individually, these are not, and you may expect some reasonable cosmetic variation between the example we've photographed and the pipe you've received.

Comfortably light...
February 26, 2026
Product: Old German Clay Retro Briar Sandblasted Dublin
This pipe is comfortably light in the mouth, which makes it perfect for having hands free to do other things.
My first couple of bowls were with Cornell & Diehl's Founding Fathers. Slow draws kept the pipe cool enough for the occasional grab, but hasty smoking may cause some heat issues with the
thinner walls.
Definitely an enjoyable pipe!
