I have returned to pipe smoking after a number of decades. I tried, literally, over 20 English and Balkan blends in the hopes of finding one, or close to it, that I smoked in the 60's and 70's. Of course, taste is entirely subjective, however, to my taste buds and olfaction, this is the first one have tried that is reminiscent of that blend, and perhaps better. There are differing views of what constitutes an English vs a Balkan mixture. For me, if it leads with Turkish it is a Balkan blend. Sutliff Balkan II has four premier Turkish tobaccos that give it a wonderful toasted, nutty flavor, with just enough matured Virginia for mild sweetness and just enough Latakia to provide a light smoky flavor. Turkish tobacco is world famous for a reason. This blend "Is It" for me. I hope it always remains available.
