Peterson - Derry Rusticated (999) Fishtail
Beautiful Pipe, Good Smoke, Feels Good in the Hand
This is my first Peterson and I'm glad I went with this model. Rustication and color look great and the matches perfectly. My stem is closer to a milk chocolate ice cream with a vanilla swirl, but yours may be the reverse, or maybe it'll look like latte art. The size is perfect, it's not a KS or XL so it fits comfortably in an average sized hand and is lightweight enough that it doesn't wear your jaw or teeth out when clinching. My ring lines had some flash in a few places, but easy to scrape out with my fingernail. The stem doesn't have a regular tenon, it's the same diameter until the bit tapers so it's a push/pressure fit. I'm only slightly worried about it wearing out, but if that happens, I'll just order another stem. Finish is good, stamp isn't great. It's light and probably won't last five years of travel. The first smoke was PS Luxury Bullseye Flake. One coin rubbed out was a perfect amount for the bowl. The smoke lasted around 45 mins. It smoked just fine, wasn't overly open or restrictive and I only got a small gurgle towards the dottle. My first time with that blends as well, so I can't exactly say the pipe did wonders or was horrible for the blend. The smoke was enjoyable and will be repeated several dozens of times, and then I'll smoke it again. ;-) All in all, I'd recommend this pipe to a newbie or to a vet. It's a good pipe and only loses a point for the stamp.
