Gawith Hoggarth & Co. - American Delite 50g
Fireworks (made in England)
I didn’t buy this specifically for the America 250 celebrations, but it’s a very tasty aro for the occasion… even if it was made in Cumbria (not exactly South Carolina). This is only my second aro, but I’m enjoying it much more than 1Q, which feels overly sweet in comparison. More flavor on the palate than 1Q, too. It is kind of wet out of the tin, especially in our summer humidity, but if you don’t mind relighting it’s no big deal. Anyway, who cares if it was made in England? So were some of the Founding Fathers (looking at you, Button Gwinnett). Plus, if things really go south in US/UK relations we’ll have something to toss into the harbor.

Hot weather tobacco
I’ll be darned, it does taste like lemon. This is my first VA/Per, so I don’t have a point of comparison there. But — it’s perfect on a hot day when I feel like taking my laptop outside. Where burley and aromatic blends feel heavy, if not nauseating, this one feels cool and bright when the temperature outside rises above 80. The true test will be whether it stands up to the brutal heat and humidity of the mid-Atlantic summer. See you when it’s 100 degrees with 100% humidity. *UPDATE 7/3/26* Well, I got my wish, thanks to this heat wave. Not even noon and it’s over 90, with a heat index in the triple digits. Sitting on my porch (in the shade, thank God) with this in a clay pipe. Rubbed it out this time. Smoking cool enough not to burn my fingers if I hold the bowl. Can’t say this is making me feel any less hot, but I’ve felt worse. The VA has taken a backseat to the perique as this burns down, I think. I’m surviving as well as could be expected in heat like this. Currently hotter than Houston. It’s not the tobacco’s fault. My review stands.
