Gawith Hoggarth & Co. - Ennerdale Flake
First time trying Ennerdale Flake
This was my first try of Ennerdale Flake. First for a Lakeland aromatic. I normally do not care for aromatics, but had heard so much about the "notorious" Lakelands, that I bought 2oz just to say I'd tried it. My mouth was watering at the scent before I even got the bag opened, but on opening found it not overpoweringly aromatic. This is for lack of a better term "dreamy". When it folded and carefully lit it, it lit reasonably well and smoked beautifully. Almost exotic aromas... couldn't decide if I was daydreaming by an English lake or in a tropical breeze. The complexity is perfect and the Lakeland... no grannies linen drawer 😂 It was just a well burning soothing smoke, with a surprisingly good vitamin N content. This is a new all time favorite I think! Did require 3 relights... a slight bite when I was gourging on it. Reduced pace and back to perfect. Goes through many phases of flavor, all of them enticing!
Low Country - Natural Virginia & Burley
Good all day smoke, but makes a magnificent blending base
I loved smoking this as is, nothing outrageous or special, simply a good simple smoke. For blending it was extraordinary as a base. I blended 4oz LC Va/Bur with 2oz of C&D Fired Cured Kentucky, 1oz of C&D Izmir, and 1oz of Newminster 400 Virginia Flake. It was perfect. Some is aging and very hopeful regarding the outcome! Low Country... good simple blends! 3/14/2026 Used it again in blending. Kept it simple. 12oz LC VaBur and 4oz C&D Dark Fired Kentucky, so simple, but so good. Pressed a few oz as well, think it'll really kick it up. I love LC bulks, such clean natural and simple blends.

Concerning Codgers
- ► Some Codger blends used rather poor grades of tobacco.I think focus on quality of leaf has improved over the the years somewhat.I do recall my uncle smoking Half and Half, and I believe some Granger. I think I preferred the smell of the Granger.
