Hydrogen peroxide - Long Read
Single pouch arrived 7/18/25. Opened, fluffed and aired out the tobacco for about 15 minutes. First pipe full had a somewhat stinging taste and a lingering aftertaste that initially I could not place. It soon came to me that this was exactly (not similar, not almost - but exactly) like rinsing my mouth out with a 2% solution of hydrogen peroxide. Additionally, numerous relights were required. Tried again in August after letting it air and it still had a hint of peroxide taste, again numerous relights required. A few more attempts were made up until Nov 9, when I microwaved the tobacco for 30 seconds, then let it sit overnight and tried another bowl full on Nov 10, in a Country Gentlemen Cobb. This time it simply tasted like hot smoke, probably because I started to freight train it due to the 9 plus relights it needed but it did have an occasional hint of sweetness. Of all the tobaccos I've purchased from Smoking Pipes, this is the only one that went into the garbage. Based on the overall popularity, I can only guess I got a bad pouch.
