What a surprise

I can't explain how shocked I was at the taste of Velvet. Just an incredibly smooth mellow smoke perfect for after dinner on the daily. The room note is also very pleasant, leathery and light. I can't recommend this enough especially at this price!

Just like what great grandpa had in the tin!

Good, but not what I remembered

My grandfather rolled Velvet when I was a little kid. When he died, we found a full can which had not been opened, so I kept it since I was smoking a pipe by then. It was a real codger blend, like Carter Hall and Granger, and it had a nice, pleasant non-aromatic, straight tobacco smell.
The pouch that I just bought is not the same as what my grandfather had. This is entirely different. It is OK but it's not as good as the old blend. It seems like they halfway tried to make it into an aromatic blend but didn't quite succeed. It smokes decently enough but it doesn't really excite me. When I'm finished with this pouch, I doubt I will be buying another....Read More

Hydrogen peroxide - Long Read

Single pouch arrived 7/18/25. Opened, fluffed and aired out the tobacco for about 15 minutes. First pipe full had a somewhat stinging taste and a lingering aftertaste that initially I could not place. It soon came to me that this was exactly (not similar, not almost - but exactly) like rinsing my mouth out with a 2% solution of hydrogen peroxide. Additionally, numerous relights were required. Tried again in August after letting it air and it still had a hint of peroxide taste, again numerous relights required. A few more attempts were made up until Nov 9, when I microwaved the tobacco for 30 seconds, then let it sit overnight and tried another bowl full on Nov 10, in a Country Gentlemen Cobb. This time it simply tasted like hot smoke, probably because I started to freight train it due to the 9 plus relights it needed but it did have an occasional hint of sweetness. Of all the tobaccos I've purchased from Smoking Pipes, this is the only one that went into the garbage. Based on the overall popularity, I can only guess I got a bad pouch....Read More

Wow, more than I expected

I wasn't sure as to what to expect from this tobacco (Velvet). As I understand some reviews, comments and YouTube reviews, everyone seems to taste something different. I tasted raspberry, prunes, raisins, it also reminds me of velvet cake. I'd buy it again and that';s saying a lot because when I ordered this I was looking to replace what I was smoking.
